Worldwide consensus regarding Guatemala is that it is by far the most beautiful place in the Central American region. A rich Mayan history that dates back to 1000 AD, the country gained independence from Spain in 1821 and today is a destination that tourists from across the globe flock to. The local markets at Chichicastenango; the city of Antigua, based between three volcanoes (Agua, Fuego & Acatenango); and Tical, one of the areas most famous national parks where Mayan temples and ruins are the order of the day, are only three picturesque locations within this heavily forested country.
