Ahuachapan city in El Salvador

Visit El Salvador

Spanish for "the saviour", El Salvador gained independence from Spain in 1821 and from the Central American Federation in 1839. The small, densely populated country is based in Central America, between Guatemala and Honduras and bordering the north Pacific Ocean. The smallest country in Central America, it's people are a mix of mestizo 90%, white 9%, and Amerindian 1%, and its official language is Spanish and Nahua (amongst Amerindians).

Mountainous regions inhabit the country with a thin black-sand coastline, so much so it has sometimes been referred to as the Land of Volcanoes. For the number of foreigners who frequent this land, this is an opportunity to trek through rugged terrain to experience the varied flora and fauna of the natural wonders that include, but are not limited to Volcan San Miguel, Cerro Verde, Izalco or Santa Ana.
